Applications for 2021 will open on January 1, 2021
Focus on your abilities, not your disabilities!
Be the Leader and Teammate you can be!
RYLA Plus is a leadership training program, fully developed and sponsored by Rotarians in the Rocky Mountain Region and designed especially for teenagers who have physical disabilities that might make their full participation in other RYLA programs challenging. This conference is held at Easterseals Colorado’s Rocky Mt. Village (RMV) in Empire, CO, which is a fully ADA-compliant camp with staffing to support delivery of required medications and/or to help with personal care needs. Conferees engage in this life-changing experience through various speaker sessions (e.g., Paralympians) and team problem-solving activities. This daily program helps conferees to understand basic principles of leadership and teamwork, while making new friends and having fun. The 2021 RYLA Plus session will be held from August 8 to August 13 (Sunday through Friday). The important acceptance criteria to attend RYLA Plus include: being attentive and respectful to all speakers and participants, communicating effectively with peers and staff, and participating in team-building and problem-solving activities. Applications may be submitted starting January. 1, 2021 until the final deadline of April 1 (more info below). The RYLA Plus Team will conduct an interview with each potential applicant before final conferee selections are made.
This RYLA Plus leadership development conference is FREE to all conferees through generous sponsorships provided by Rotary clubs in our area. Prior conferees have said this program gave them the motivation and self-confidence to pursue goals beyond their original expectations. Parents of conferees have seen changes in their teenagers, and Rotarians who participate as counselors are inspired by the courage and positive attitudes to overcome obstacles that these conferees exhibit. Some conferees will also be selected for positions as future Junior Counselors or even the Head Jr. Counselor, who runs the program of activities, at a subsequent conference. Conferees tell us that this experience changes their attitude about what they can achieve in life!
